I come to this forum alot to read the views of others on how they are "managing" their UC and i wanted to share my most recent experience as i have tried many of the things noted on the forum.
I was diagnosed back in 2013 with left-sided UC and proctitis. I was put on salofalk granules and prednisilone IV, then followed up by oral pred and added salofalk enemas. I also began to see a nutrionist who helped me understand my diet alot more, I took out certain foods etc etc.
After nearly a year of remission, apart from a mouthful of ulcers every week which was annoying, i had another flare - which i link to eating too many spring onions.
Anyway, to get to the point, i upped my meds (now balzalside) on the advice of my doctors to help me through the current flare. After weeks of this, nothing seemed to help.
I then, on a whim, spoke to the nutrionist and took 3 x helping of amino acid Glutamine and the flare stopped overnight (i kid you not). I also take 2 x slippery elm capsules a day and continue with 2 x helping of Glutamine and the results i've seen have been brilliant. No more wind, No more D, no more blood. I still have the urgency some days but everything is fully formed and normal.
Now, i'm not saying this would work for the general population or even advising taking the above, nor am i trying to say theres a "cure." I am not that naive. The reason i have submitted this is that it may help someone going through the embarrassing times of a UC flare and if i can help one of my fellow "UCers" that's gotta be a bonus.
