Not sure if this helps, but my daughter had only left sided Colitis at the time her appendix started acting up. It presented in a way that took three college ER trips to figure out. They finally took it out, it was scarred and banded(indicating it was problematic for awhile). When back to her real GI, he suggested that her UC might be better now, that some literature suggested that the absence of the appendix helped symptoms.
It did, for awhile...then all heck broke loose.
Daughter, 21 diagnosed 1-08 w/ UC
Drug sampling: Asacol, Cortifoam, 6mp,Colazal,Rowasa,PPI'S, Flagyl, Pred.,Diet not directly impactful.Remi w/adjustments= remission 4 yrs, re-remission with Tacro 6 mo. Back to Endocort, Uceris,Canasa, hospital, Pred. Pancolitis via scope.Retried Remi,no-go. Entyvio, loading doses didn't stop train-surgery Step 1, Aug 28,2014.
