You might be able to control the symptoms somewhat with diet and naturals, I did a little for 24 years but the damage was still being done, so I ended up with a rectovaginal fistula due to my crohn's colitis likely going untreated for over 2 decades other than the odd RX of prednisone until it stopped working which happened fairly quickly, and rectal meds when I could tell I needed them...so keep in mind too that it's individual as well, maybe I was "lucky" using that term loosely, but I have also not lived a very full life for the last 24 yrs either, but I didn't have a lot of choices cuz I was either allergic or non-responsive to traditional oral RX.
It wasn't until I went on Humira in Feb. of this year due to the fistula, the Humira did heal up my inflammation in my colon and rectum (due to crohn's affecting those particular areas) and the fistula seems to be healing/healed as well, but I do have some scaring on my rectum likely a result of such long term (24 yrs) of flaring and not having much for meds to take.
I should have also added to my post, that it was about
10 yrs ago that my GI also believed that I likely developed IBS due to being sick and untreated for so long, and now that my inflammation is healed up (and only a bit of scaring in the rectum) my IBS D/C is now affecting me with plenty of trips to the bathroom daily and lately more often than not too, so there's another reason not to go unmedicated if you can help it because many IBDers do also end up with IBS issues as well.
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
