Phages are actually bacteria specific so they do not effect us or our "human cells". And they can be specific to only certain bacteria. They kill the bacteria by "exploding it" - it bursts
open due to the amount of phages that have replicated inside it.
So because of this when they effect only the "bad" bacteria they help the good thrive simply by leaving them alone... So they kill off the bad and act as a pre-biotic.
The thing is this product does not say what the "bad" bacteria are... So red flags go up. Also who knows about
the "nutrient" claim from exploding bad bacteria... I kinda doubt it.
That said phage therapy holds a lot of promise if you know the offering bacteria in the first place. The food industry has proven this. Yogurt makers etc etc.
One thing - The Human Genome Project states that we all have a specific dominant phage type. Phages attach to our mucus and act like an immune system (see below). Or are in fact as stated another immune system of ours. Even in twins the bacteria make-up may be quite similar but they will have a completely different dominate phage population. In UC this line of defence may actually be compromised as there is problem with the mucus itself.
Hope that explains a little. Here I'll post these for you to skim through as they really are quite awesome:
