I've been taking a vacation from the forum for a few weeks. I've been doing really well, living an almost totally normal life. Many would maybe call it remission but as good as I'm doing I know something still isn't exactly right and if I let up on my treatment plan I will get worse sooner rather than later. UC doesn't rule my life anymore but it has a permanent seat on the inside of my brain. I've achieved this state without using any high tier drugs. Pentasa is the only prescript
ion med I take for UC and sometimes I wonder as good as I'm doing (using various supplements), maybe I don't even need the Pentasa but I'm too scared to chance dropping it at this point.
I bought a Nopal supplement recently from Swanson and was going to start it to try and get all the way to the promised land but I've been doing so well lately I decided not to try it yet. I read the reviews on it and many said it worked better or just as good as doing it the longer, harder way of preparing it. None of the reviews were specifically about
UC though. I believe they were talking about
it's use as a sugar regulator, which seems to be it's main use.
Don't do this at home but I seem to have gotten considerably better by eating popcorn, which I made a post on several weeks ago. It seems like the more I eat the better I get. Keeping up with this is actually incredibly difficult. I also continue with the DAO and Grape Seed Extract, both of which are of great benefit. I think the DAO in particular would benefit many with UC if they gave it a chance. There is actually considerable scientific and medical evidence regarding the fact that many UC'rs are low on this digestive enzyme, causing worsening UC symptoms due to histamine intolerance. I appreciate the thread somebody started on this subject a week or two ago and the other responses in that thread.
I'll check in occasionally but I plan on continuing my vacation from the forum as I plan to start living my life again. Right now I can't offer up much of any advice that can't already be found by searching the forum. If I ever start the Nopal (Prickly Pear Cactus) I'll let you know.
Pentasa (500mg) 2 pills X 2; VSL 1 pill X 2; Prescrip Assist Probiotic 1 pill X 2; Grape seed extract (1)400mg X 3; Vitamin D3 (1) 5,000 IU X 2; daily generic Allegra; DAO as needed due to dietary histamine intolerance
Gave me trouble: Zymactive, Renew Life Probiotic 80 billion, Florastor, high histamine foods
