Hey ya'll,

So it's been a long time, but I need ya'll. I changed from Pentasa to Lialda on Tuesday. Wednesday morning, I had D before I even ate breakfast, then loose stools throughout the day. Mom said she thought I got my mind hyped up and maybe I did. Thursday and Friday were more of the same. I hadn't looked in the toilet but the color on the toiletpaper was lighter than usual. Today at work, I turned around to flush the toilet after going and saw that my stools were a very light color (kind of a tannish yellow) and had a speck or two of red in them (I have had irritation in my bottom because of the amount of BMs I've had in the past few days).

Have any of you experienced this when starting Lialda?

(I also have a sore throat and other symptoms that I have been associating with allergies but if it's not the Lialda, maybe I have something viral that's in my stomach too...)

Why did you switch?

Are you on rectal meds as well?

Are you on any probiotics.....

You should let your doc know what's going on. On occasion I've had a lighter stool...mostly because of what I've eaten, but it's never been consistent.

Are you taking the Lialda all at once, or split dosage?..and how much?

I would let your doctor know, but you could also have a virus if you aren't feeling well.
I have only ever taken lialda for my UC so I can't speak to the switch.

I also wonder why the switch. Can you switch back?

Insurance would not pay for the pentasa unless I tried and failed on Lialda. No rectal meds. Off prednisone for a flare for about 3 weeks now.

I wonder how you got on the Pentasa in the first place. In any event, sounds like you've failed Lialda so I would switch back.

After years taking Pentasa, two pills three times a day,  I had to do the switch to Lialda as well. The only problem I had was that they put me on one pill twice daily, and I was really dizzy. After contacting my GP since my GI was not available, he recommended I take the pharma's dosage -- 2 pills once daily. Knock on wood I haven't had any issues since. Best....
