Sometimes I think my only problem is inflammation around the anus. It always seems kind of red and inflamed, even though I am doing very, very well otherwise, except for thin stools and going about 2-4 times per day. I do have a hemmie that comes and goes just inside the anus or you might even say at the anus. Some would say I was in remission. I think my doctor would say I have IBS. Canasa suppositories seem to help some when my condition is a little worse but don't seem to do a darn thing whenever I am in my current condition. It's like the suppositories get sucked in past the problem and that is why they don't work when I am like this. I do have a steroid cream (I don't think it's meant for internal use (whatever internal means) but sometimes I put some inside that area and I seem to do better on those days. Is it possible to have like proctitus at the anal opening only?
Pentasa (500mg) 2 pills X 2; VSL 1 pill X 2; Prescrip Assist Probiotic 1 pill X 2; Grape seed extract (1)400mg X 3; Vitamin D3 (1) 5,000 IU X 2; daily generic Allegra; DAO as needed due to dietary histamine intolerance

Gave me trouble: Zymactive, Renew Life Probiotic 80 billion, Florastor, high histamine foods

I know in the past I've had inflammation just in my rectum as well as my entire colon in combination with my rectum. Right now I'm going to the bathroom about 20 times a day. It's nothing but liquid stool, the same as baby food I would compare it to. I know my rectum is inflamed bad by the pain I'm feeling from it. It feels like someone is beating on my tailbone...just a constant throbbing pain. Looking in a mirror, the outer edge of my rectum on one side is swollen, probably the start of a Hemmi. I can't even wipe currently. I use the bathroom and have to rinse off in the shower by splashing water. Wiping is painful. I know my skin is raw on my rectum from going so much.
150mg 6mp...last med to help control my colitis. All others failed.

No idea about your question, but have you tried baby wipes and A & D ointment to see if that helps?

Do you know for sure if you have a hemmie or are you just assuming? I think any irritation in/on the anus should be checked out by your doc to make sure it's not something more serious especially with having IBD, not saying it is serious but you know anal cancer is always a possibility and can happen to anyone so you're best bet is to get it checked out and confirmed, that way if it is a hemmie your doc should be able to help you out with that.
DX with Crohn's Disease in 1991 shortly after becoming ill. CD was affecting small and large bowel & anus (perianal crohn's skin tags) & rectum for first 2 yrs of becoming sick, CD remained constant in colon (Crohn's colitis) & anus with anal tags, intolerant to oral meds. Currently on Humira (Feb 2014) once a week and B12, Vitamin A and Omega's daily. In remission but trying to combat IBS D/C.

4 times a day hints at remaining uc inflammation not being treated. I was simmering and bouncing around berween 2 and 4 for a while, before flaring very badly. Remission, to me, is 1 bm a day.

Have you had any recent scopes to back up your hunch/suspicion?

I agree with PB4 about seeing a doctor. My guess is that it might be an abscess.

I'm sure it is a hemmie and it was actually confirmed by my family doc before I even had UC. It comes and goes. I pretty much have this area inflamed all the time so it is not something new the doc hasn't seen yet. In fact, I'm sure it looks much better now than when docs have checked it out before. I remember a couple of years ago I had a prostrate exam by a urologist and he remarked on how red the area was. I was doing much worse back then. I have tried baby wipes before when I was doing badly and also desitin. These helped with the irritation but now I mostly use either regular body lotion or that steroid ointment on the area as they seem to work much better. It just seems like proctitus to me, but not inside far enough where a suppository would do any good because they get sucked up past the problem area, which is the reason for my post. Can you have proctitus on just the anus only and not farther up? I only see my GI once per year now and since this really isn't anything new, I don't see the point of making an appointment for it, particularly when it is better now than the last time I saw him.

If you want a good tip to sooth the area, get yourself some Calmoseptine ointment. The stuff is fantastic. You can find it at most Walgreens in the adult diaper isle. Amazon.com also has it.

Oh yes, I forgot about Lidocaine, that stuff is the bomb!! Gary it sounds like it's not an unusual symptom for you to be having but the scary thing is at some point it could become more aggressive and I can only imagine the discomfort it causes now (I'm familiar with pain in the arse thanks to my perianal crohn's skin tags) but imagine if at some point it decides it's going to get worse....I don't know, I guess with stuff I've been through with my lousy body I've gotten to the point where leaving things to possibly end up getting worse is a horrible experience to have...it would be nice to have one less painful thing to deal with.

Gary- when I was having a hemi flare-up I was given some cream that comes in a box with a bunch of little tubes in it with applicator tips. You could use it externally and internally. I only had 2 measly cm of inflammation. That cream really helped things because it had a steroid in it too. Killed two birds with one stone so to speak.

If your still having think stools and going 2-4 times a day while I know is an improvement from what you were at one point, there is still room for improvement. :)

Manuka Honey? Sounds like a long shot, but I used it recently and was VERY surprised just how beneficial it was to the area I was treating, something to ponder on!

Are you saying rub the honey on my butt, or ingest it?
