Hello everyone. Let me start off by giving a background. I had posted this on c diff discuss but since I am c diff free and there doesn't seem to be as many people on there with UC l, I figured this forum would be better suited.
In highschool I used to take antibiotics for every sinus infection I had which happened a lot. I also took many during my freshman year of college for various sinus infections and bladder infections. Then During my freshman year I had a bad c diff infection that went undiagnosed for months. I never knew that those antibiotics would cause a stomach infection. I had the stomach pain and funky stools but rarely had straight diarrhea except on occasion. I had blood and mucus throughout that time in my stools. However, It wasn't until I started pooping out straight blood that I went to the ER. I was put on flagyl during my five day stay in the hospital but couldn't tolerate it. I was switched to vancomycin orally and continued to take it after the hospital for two weeks. While on vanco I had no symptoms. I pooped multiple times a day(normally I go once) but it was perfect according to th Bristol scale. Afterwards I tested negative but had leftover damage. I still had some stomach pain before a Bm and blood and mucus in and out of my stools. I went to a gastro and had a colonoscopy which tested positive for acute proctitis. It was a long road but after six months of hydrocortisone suppositories I was proctitis free according to my sidoscomy. (I spelled that wrong)
Now fast forward two years and I came down with c diff again after not taking ANY antibiotics since my last hospital visit two years ago. However I did take a friend to the ER for a few hours so I'm guessing I got it there. Anyway I had diarrhea three weeks later. It was off and on and sometimes it would be loose stool other times it would be mushy and sometimes I'd be constipated. But I had that gut wrenching stomach pain each time. However it wasn't as bad as last time- no blood or mucus. I got tested, then was out on flagyl. I couldn't tolerate it again and threw it up. Went to the ER to get vancomycin but couldn't fill it til Monday and had diarrhea the next day after being constipated. Then I picked up my vanco the next day and tolerated it the same as last time - multiple BMs a day and no symptoms. I was off it for a week or two and I've started taking psyllium fiber again since my stools are on the mushy side. I've also started my proctitis suppositories at the advice of my gastro just in case.
Fast forward a month later, and I'm still having those ups and downs. I don't feel c diff symptoms but they feel more like proctitis. It was gone since my last colonoscopy but now it feels like it has returned. I have some of the same symptoms like the mucus. But this time I also have rectal pressure, feels swollen, abdominal pain, and urgency(where it literally feels like my poop will drop out of my bum) and I will go multiple times sometimes and it'll make my stomach cramp up right underneath my belly button. Oh and I've never had diarrhea with proctitis. Mainly Stools that are formed and get looser as I continue going throughout the day. However this time I also have NO BLOOD whatsoever. But I had some last time. My main concern is the mucus with and without BMs and the urgency and stomach cramps which can be dull or sometimes sharp. But they're always under my belly button. I can't tell if it's kore towards the left but it feels more in the middle. Now I'm concerned I haven't seen blood. I'm praying this isn't oroctitis again because it was a pain to get rid of last time. I'm also worried that if it is pro titis again it means I'll keep getting it. But so far since I didn't have symptoms before the c diff I feel like it's damage from the c diff. Which is also what I've read from other people but no one can confirm.
I'll be starting my hydrocortisone again every day since I honestly haven't been keeping up with it.
But I'm also wondering if my symptoms are just hemmoroids. I know proctitis and hemmoroids symptoms can be similar. But don't they both require blood? I do feel a bump when I wipe after a BM and sometimes when I go and still feel like I gotta poop, that I'm really just pushing a bump out. Like maybe an internal hemmoroids? I've gone to the doctor but she wants me to wait and see how I do before getting another colonoscopy since I'm so young. If you have any experience with proctitis after c diff or maybe confusing hemmoroids for proctitis please advise!!!
