I want to point out that unless you cannot digest lactose there is not need to eat a lactose free diet. You can take a simple test to detect if you are lactose intolerant.
Has the bloating eased somewhat?
I took the lactose test and it said I was not
lactose-intolerant. However when I finally, after many years of gas, urgency, etc, eliminated dairy my symptoms became much less severe. I did have to eliminate fruit and fruit juices too so it was not only lactose causing problems. UC has many symptoms that cannot be diagnosed with current tests. I was also tested for celiac and again said not celiac. When I eliminated wheat/gluten my bleeding stopped.
I believe these symptoms are related to missing beneficial bacteria or enzymes, screwed up gut biome in other words. I am now an expert gluten-free, dairy-free cook.
