So I've been deemed indeterminate UC & Crohn's. It's definitely one or the other based on all the tests i've undergone. I've seen the pics from my most recent colonoscopy and it's not pretty - lots of inflammation, scar tissue and strictures (narrowing sections in my colon). My GI specialist has recommended surgery as the next step, but of course, the type of surgery is dependent upon knowing which IBD I have. My symptoms have not been typical to what I know by reading this forum so many of you suffer from. I don't have frequent bloody diarrhea, in fact no blood at all. I did have diarrhea for a period of time, but it wasn't excessively frequent (about 3-4 times/day), no urgency and only minor cramping. I did suffer from fatigue, joint pain, significant edema in both legs from the knees down (could have been a side effect from Humira - no longer taking) and the diarrhea i mentioned above. Since the colonoscopy on Sept 4th, I have felt significantly better - my energy level is back to normal, the swelling in my legs has gone away (thanks in part to lymphedema compression treatement) and the joint pain was gone until just recently. I've wondered if the joint pain could be a side effect from the Uceris that I started back in early Sept.,but not sure. In any event, I am meeting with the surgeon tomorrow. It's difficult to contemplate surgery when I don't suffer from the typical symptoms and never really have. Like I said, I've seen the pictures of my colon and based on the GI specialist report and recommendation, my condition will not improve with medications and left as is, something bad will happen - obstruction or perforation. i'm just wondering if there are others out there who are/were also A-typical in their symptoms and had the surgery. I've got my list of questions for the surgeon as I'm not taking this lightly.
Thanks in advance for any insight from others.
