Good luck Cactuar,
If you let the pens warm up to room temperature (minimum 20 minutes but you can go up to half an hour) then the sting isn't so bad, just make sure you pinch and hold the skin the entire time you're injection for those 10 seconds (watch for the yellow marker in the little window to drop all the way to the bottom, once it stops moving down, then it's completed, a full 10 seconds) and hold the pen at a comfortable and firm position so you can see the little window marker moving down, holding the pen at a 90 degree angle, be sure not to have it lean slightly in any direction just nice and straight 90 degree. It's still gonna hurt a touch but it's not bad...I do it weekly, some people like to ice the area first but then you have to wipe it with the alcohol swab and let that dry before you inject and honestly, the icing to me isn't worth the hassle for how short a time you're injecting for.
I had my initial first 4 loading doses all done in the gut and that hurt like hell, I did the second loading doses of 2 pens 2 weeks later one in the top of each thigh and that was way less painful....sometimes if I'm pinching the skin just right, I don't feel a thing (room temperature warmed pen too of course) or bleed hardly a touch. My nurse told me to alternate legs I do my shots even when I was doing the shot biweekly she said it's a good idea to alternate legs.
I do my shots weekly now, have been for quite a while now and the only side effect I've ever gotten so far is a horrid headache the next day after I do my shot so I take an antihistamine just before bed the day I do my shot and I no longer get those horrid headaches.
