Richard - yes the vitamin C is probably what is killing me with the cystex. But that stuff really does help prevent e-coli from adhering to the bladder wall. At least it seems to work for me when I feel a UTI coming on.
I just dug up my green tea + acai supplement and will give it a try. I have nothing to lose at this point and that is one of my supplements that does not cause any gut distress. I wonder if the acai would do something similar to the cranberry?
You might want to try a straight Cran-Max based supplement and see if it helps with the UTI's as much as the Cystex. That might help you avoid the side effects. All of the anti bacterial adhesion benefit is in the cranberry extract.
You might get some benefit from the acai. According to this:
it has anti-inflammatory properties too. There are lots of different inflammatory pathways and nothing works on all of them, but it certainly shouldn't hurt.
By the way, I'm going to try adding a pomegranate extract too now. According to these it's been tested on UC in mice and been found effective.
Good luck. Let us know if the green tea and acai helps.
