Have you guys seen this "new" probiotic? It is the same blend as VSL#3, apparently the inventor of VSL#3 has left the company who makes it and is now selling Visbiome.
http://www.visbiome.com/

It is priced similarly, but packaged differently.

That is interesting news, guess their agreement was up and the inventor started his own distribution company. I don't need to use it anymore (very rarely) but it certainly helped get me to remission.

I can't tell you, momto2boys, how much this post helped me! I called my insurance company with the new drug name, Visbiome, and now get the probiotic covered by my insurance. That is about $1000 a month in savings. And priceless increase to my quality of life.

I never would have known without you and all the great people on this forum.

My insurance won't cover VSL#3 DS because they said it's a medical food. Is Visbiome classified differently?

I don't think they have a prescription version with Visbiome. It is a medical food. I can use my FSA card to pay for it, but my insurance won't.

They do have a prescription version if Visbiome. It's the exact same formulation as VSL 3#DS was in January 2016. One of the lead creators left VSL and took his formulation but couldn't take the name VSL. Hence VSL adding corn starch to change their formulation.

If you visit their website you can read more info but yes they have the prescription 900 billion sachets.

My insurance won't cover VSL or Visbiome at the prescription level...stating that since I can buy it over the counter...after many appeal fights...I lost.

I am taking Visbiome sachets at 450 billion over the counter. I can't handle corn starch. I was originally taking 2 VSL #3DS sachets a day for 4 years (since diagnosis) until they stopped covering it.

I now take 1 or 2 (when needed) 450 billion sachets. Luckily my gut likes it (same formula as original VSL) and the lower dosage hasn't affected anything smile
Diagnosed Nov 2012 after birth of first child, Left sided UC
Remicade, 6mp
Visbiome 450 billion, prenatal vitamin, vit D, biotin, fiber, enemas only if needed

I just found out about visbiome and chatted with the company. They are apparently in a law suit with VSL#3's new company. It has to be the new company because for years the old VSL#3 didn't challenge Visbiome. The new VSL#3 claims that they no longer use dairy and Visbiome does. Has anyone who has tried both see a difference? I use the unflavored VSL#3 packets. The price just went up quite a bit. I guess they have to pay for their lawsuit. I don't like the new VSL#3..it doesn't dissolve well and I don't think it's as strong as the old one. Your thoughts?

Hi
Did they switch the base to cornstarch when the new company took over? I don't feel as good with this new company and the VSL doesn't dissolve properly.

I didn't know that the other company was using Maltose. I definitely don't want that.

I hope that the cornstarch VSL is using is non GMO. Visbome said that their cornstarch is non GMO.

I have noticed the VSL 3 price increase. I hope there is more competition and the price comes down. Crazy what goes on with meds/med food (whatever!) Tired of paying all this $$.

There's also something called Symprove on the market. Looks like it helps for IBS and was shown to reduce fecal calprotectin in UC (but not Crohns). Wondering if anyone has tried it (or even heard of it).
