Absolutely be your own advocate and request the rectal meds....
What are your stools like? and how often?
Since you are on pred and tapering, plus on Octasa and rectal....if you have enough to do you till the flex-sig...I'd suggest you do them twice daily and see if that makes a difference.
The point to always argue regarding rectal meds and UC is.....if that's where it starts, that's where it should always be treated as well. It's where all the stool comes out, where the tenesmus happens, and if that area can be eased, it's only common sense. No oral topical will treat that.
No teeny stool should feel like a watermelon coming out or that one's giving birth through the rectum. withholding those meds are backwards.
Try the twice a day or the twice in one shot...it's up to you. But if you are not having diarrhea or loose stool...try the twice a day first and see how it goes.
You have room to try both or switch it up till you get more rectal meds.
My suggestion is to stay on them continually till you're off the pred. See how it goes for a week or so afterward...then consider to taper. You can also request them to be prescribed continually so you can taper to maintenance and increase if you need them.
But that's down the road....good to hear they're helping you now...keep me posted.
*Heather* I give suggestions, do with them what you will.
