I was diagnosed with UC throughout the colon and my dr. prescribed lialda 3x day. Never really got it under control so he raised it up to 4x a day and added prednisone 40 mg for two weeks, 30mg for a week, then taper by 5mg every week. I am currently taking 25 mg but I am still having urgency. I am having about
ten bms a day and there is blood in almost every bm. I really haven't been eating out of control. I have avoided dairy and gluten and have only ate vegetables and chicken breasts/ fish so I know diet is not much of a factor at the moment.
I see my dr this tuesday and at my previous appointment we discussed taking immunomodulators but i decided to stay a little longer on the prednisone and experiment with diet. Over the past couple of days i have read about
rectal meds and my question is how effective are they. My concern is that after i taper off the prednisone will taking lialda 4x day plus a rectal med keep me in remission. I also have a question on trying rowasa or canasa. Which is more convenient? Which is more effective? I am a college student, privacy is not an issue this semester but the next will, as i will be sharing a bedroom and bathroom.
I would like some advice/support on this issue. I really do not want to take rectal medications but I also do not want to take the next step and go on immunos. I know i should give rectals a try but the idea of it is uncomfortable. Please help me
