Hi guys! It's been quite a while since I've been on the forum. I am sure there are many newbies who don't know me, but I used to post here quite a bit. For those of you who don't know me, I've had UC since 2007. I've had many ups and downs but am currently in remission. I'm hoping by sharing this post it gives hope to some of those who are very sick and scared you may never live a normal life again...
I started running a little over 3 years ago and not only is it fun and great for my mental and physical health, I feel it may help my UC stay in remission as well. In October of 2014, I ran my first marathon. Last fall, I ran my first 50-mile race. I am now training for my first 24-hour race! Yes, that means I will be running for 24 hours straight (or until I can't take it anymore)! The course is a 1.5-mile loop that you repeat for the entire day and night. My goal is to run 75-85 miles total over the course of the 24 hours.
I'm very excited to be running this race as a fundraiser for The Wild Animal Sanctuary, a nonprofit in Colorado that rescues and provides a home for wild animals who suffered through lives of unimaginable abuse. The sanctuary provides a safe, loving home to about
400 animals, most of which are large carnivores, like lions, bears, wolves and tigers. A majority of the animals were once kept as "pets" or used in roadside attractions and were neglected and outright abused.
I'm asking for support in the form of pledges per miles run. All pledges I raise will go directly to The Wild Animal Sanctuary. If you are interested or have a second, please click the following link to learn more about
the sanctuary and to make a pledge, if you can. Any amount helps! All donations are tax-deductible and pledges made now won't be collected until after I complete the race on Sept. 25. Any amount helps!
Edit: If interested in supporting me or just being my Facebook friend, feel free to add me: Sara Daehn.
Thank you! And I hope all of you are healing well! <3
(Sorry no pledges, gofundme's or other similar things allowed, even when they're great causes)
