Hi, I went for my sigmoidoscopy at the end of last week and the GI said I have severe inflammation that he could see in the sigmoid, for the length of the sigmoid but no where else. He wanted to me take steroid tablets now but we agreed I will use just a steroid enema and if no improvement in two weeks then the tablets.
I was really surprised as I am currently only going 4/5 times a day and the last two trips are my usual, just the first two where it is unformed and watery and I have been so much worse in previous flares. I am now at the start of week 7.
He couldn't see further up the colon with it just being a sigmoidoscopy but most of my discomfort does feel in that sigmoid area and I am still able to have formed stool so I am hoping that means that it can't be too inflamed higher up the colon. Any thoughts on this are welcome.
He commented that there was deep ulceration but no bleeding on contact. My bleeding hasn't been too bad, perhaps showing on one trip per day and it lessened after a slight constipation period two weeks ago improved.
Previously my sigmoidoscopies only give the impression of mild inflammation and it has been my biopsies and my symptoms which have indicated moderate or severe.
I don't have the latest biopsies back yet of course and the earlier stool inflammation test was just "equivocal" and unclear whether it was even a flare.
Has anyone else had a flare like this? It really wasn't what I was expecting to hear. Over the least few weeks before the sigmoidoscopy, my energy has been returning and the pain from going for a BM has been reducing steadily……..
