Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a few months, but I guess I'm joining the party now..
I was just diagnosed last week after my first colonoscopy, and I am at my wit's end with this disease. I don't have very much bleeding at all, but my symptoms are severe. My entire colon has UC, except for my anus. I am unbelievably pissed at this disease, so please excuse me if the tone of this post is less than enthusiastic. I am at my wit's end, and I need help.
No matter what I eat, I have extremely urgent, profuse, watery diarrhea at least once every three hours, sometimes more often. It's gotten to the point where I am not making it to the bathroom on time. I am 27 years old and I am wearing Depends. Sometimes I might have a minutes' worth of warning, but many times I have *no* warning: I feel absolutely fine one moment, and then all of a sudden there's something rapidly filling my rectum out of nowhere. No pain, no nothing. I try to hold it in but it seems like all of the muscles down there start doing everything they can to push it out, and there's physically no way I can fight it. I had *three accidents three days in a row week before last.* In these cases I *might* have 20 seconds to rush to the restroom.
I greatly envy everyone who talks about
'flares' because I'm never NOT 'flaring.' It doesn't matter what I eat the result is the same -as soon as the motion of peristalsis reaches my colon, my colon rejects everything it. I stopped drinking soda months ago, and I tried drinking nothing but water for over a month. I even tried eating nothing but grilled chicken, rice, and water for a week with absolutely no change whatsoever.
A few weeks ago there were a few days where I absolutely could not afford to have any urgent episodes, so I simply did not eat for over 24 hours, and I drank minimally. Guess what? After 24 hours, I was still having urgent trips to the bathroom every hour or so passing nothing but green bile.
Screw this freaking disease.
Tried Bentyl. Tried Symax duotab -seemed to begin working for a few days, but then stopped. Doctor just put me on 3mg of Entocort last Friday when he diagnosed me -seemed to work GREAT the first two days. In fact, the second day I only pooped once on 24 hours!! Strangely though, even after 24 hours of sitting in my system (presumably my colon?), it was still the same profuse watery consistency. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the normal transit time for normal poop 24 hours? WHY wasn't it solid!? Anyway, I'm now back to my normal urgency.
The one and only thing that seems to work is Immodium. I take just 3/4 a tablet and it holds me for 12 hours at least. I'm uncomfortable that entire time and kinda feel like I need to pee, but screw it, who cares about
Please. Please for the love of God tell me there's light at the end of the tunnel. I am ready to personally rip this useless organ out of my body and install a bag. Because holy crap, not having to worry about
having an accident every waking moment of my existence would be heaven.
Oh yeah, the urgent rushes wake me up in the middle of the night too.
