I was recently diagnosed with pharyngitis and a double ear infection so the doc put me on Azithromycin. She originally wanted to put me on penicillin but had to explain to her about my UC (I went to urgent care)

Anyway, I was just wondering. If anyone takes this antibiotic, if it causes stomach pain. Not intestinal pain but actual stomach pain. I make sure I eat when I take them but I still have strong stomach spasms when I take them. I am highly prone to sinus infections and they usually prescribe the Z-pack and I get the same thing every time.

It affects my gut a bit by increasing my bm's but mostly it just hurts my stomach. Could it it be possibly my GERD that makes it hurt more?

Azithromycin is zithromax....and the last time I took it, I felt nauseated. Never have on the past, so that was really unusual and irritating. Thankfully it's a once a day med.

Do you take it during the day or at night?

Maybe take bentyl a half hour before the Azithromycin...that could help ease the cramping possibly.

Sucks you are dealing with this....double ear infection and throat infection pain is hell! Did the doc do a swab?
Hope you feel better soon. Hugs!

The 1st Z-pack dose hurt my stomach within 2 hours. So, in my case, it seemed to be the 2 tabs at once that caused me discomfort; afterward when I dropped to 1 tab per dose it didn't bother me. Are you getting relief from ear/throat symptoms? / Old Hat (36 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I just finished a z-pack a week ago. It has never hurt my stomach. I think often we can tolerate it because it's only a 5-day course of treatment so our colons don't have as much time to get wound up. My PCP usually gives me an injection of Rocephin followed by the z-pack. I had killer bronchitis, still trying to get my voice back to normal.

I'm feeling much better. Feeling still a little wonky in the throat area tho. But what she gave me was not the Z-pack but azithromycin to be taken Twice a day for 7 days. The evening dose doesn't bother me because I take it before bed and I sleep thru any side effects.

Q, do you think that Bentyl will help the stomach as it would the intestines?

Yes....it's an antispasmodic, and certainly calms my stomach.
Worth a try....id say take it half hour before eating.... then take take the Azithromycin.
Im wondering if it depends on the brand of generic? Only the last time did I have nausea...never before.
