Sooo, you've never been on any other mesalamine oral or rectal meds?
Have you had stool testing done to make sure you don't have an infection or anything else?
Your choice go go up the med ladder....., if all is clear after testing, I'd suggest to exhaust the mesalamines/steroid oral/ rectal topicals if they've never been tried in the past.
I don't know why doctors are so quick to recommend escalating up the med ladder before trying rectal mesalamines. But I guess that is why a forum like this is needed.
