yes I am pretty certain because it happended on Lialda and mildly with Canasa but more tolerable. I feel better after evacuating it in the morning but I am still more gassy. I am thinking about trying activated charcoal for the trapped gas. I get pain around the splenic flexure and when I press on it I feel the gurgly gas. Can the charcoal interfere with the rectal meds? If the UC was worsening or traveling upward wouldn't I have more diarrhea or more blood? I am using cortifoam and Rowasa for inflammation between 5cm and 20cm from my last sig in December. It was mild ..prior to that I had a sig in August which was called extremely mild. I'm new to all of this and it's all so hard to understand what's causing the issues.
Hi Countess, I've become very sensitive to mesalamine meds as well and discovered that I can only tolerate small doses and my side effects are dose dependent.
Rowasa is very strong and gives you 4G at once. Try using 1/2 or 1/3 of the bottle and see how it works for you. Canasa is only 1G which is why it may be better tolerated for you. You should also try probiotics and diet if you are only having a minor flare. That may be enough to kick it.
If Lialda is causing too many side effects you can switch to another mesalamine med or try a lower dose that is still therapeutic. They all seem to have slightly different side effects and people have different reaction on each sometimes.
