I'm on Mesalazine 1g tablets, and am usually more than fine on just 1g a day, sometimes I take 2 tablets if I notice any changes. I Only got minor flare ups when I stopped taking them for a month due to not being sure if I had colitis or not. That was a while back and a result of my doctor suggesting he wasn't sure if I had it or it was just IBS. Not in doubt that it is colitis now, anyway, I'm going to start from the begining:
I had a tooth infection about 3 weeks back, which I was perscribed Amoxicillin for 5 days (500g dose 3 times per day). Being a bit silly I stopped taking my colitis medication for a bit, I was still taking it, but just rarely during those few days. The tooth infection didn't clear after the antibiotics and I went back again a few days after and was perscribed 5 more days of Metronidazole, same dose, this time. about 2-3days into the Metronidazole I caught a cold which shortly turned into a fever. I ended up in bed most of the time feeling rather ill as well as sick from the antibiotics(horrible side effect) I could barely manage a drink so put off taking the Mesalazine even more as I was struggling to just take the antibiotics. I got the idea that this fever might be caused by those antibiotics as it was a listed side effect and my brother's who also caught this same cold before me only had a fever for a day or two.
I've now had this fever for about 11 days, maybe longer. It's not getting better. I got back on the Melsalazine after a few days when I felt well enough, but I was still taking them too randomly. Today my colitis flared up and am almost having acidents. So it suddenly went bad. Never had it go sudden like this before.
I wasn't linking this fever to the colitis at all before, but I read that it could be the case. I've never had a fever with it in the past, I didn't have a fever when I was first diagnosed either. Had the colitis symptoms full blown for 6 months before they finally figured it out and gave me something for it. I've had minor flare ups but never a fever.
Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm waiting for a doctor's appointment later today and I'll let you know what I get told, but I'm now feeling that he's gonna just insist it's colitis now when I don't feel it is.
