SCD has worked very well for me for the past 15+ years. I am unable to tolerate mesalamine aside from short-term, very low doses so I've been managing my illness via SCD and other supplements (see signature). I've never had to take predisone or other strong meds and had a 12 year remission. My UC was moderate severity upon diagnosis and my subsequent colonoscopies have been clear (no inflammation) aside from the most recent one after a flare that begin in jan, which still showed mild rectal inflammation, but colon was completely normal. My BM's look normal and no urgency.
There are thousands of people like me out there that are managing UC with diet/supplements and intermittent use of meds.
Just keep a food journal. SCD is not a miracle or anything so track your symptoms and you may have to adjust. You may be one of the "lucky" ones that can manage it via diet.
Lastly, SCD is a stage diet. Most people that don't get results don't introduce foods in stages and don't start on the intro diet for a few days before starting to incorporate foods slowly and testing it out.
UC since 2001, severe GERD secondary to mesalamine
Remission for 12 Years! (2005- 1/2017) due to SCD diet, fish oil, & ocassional low dose asacol.
NOW: symptomatic remission: Balsalsaide (low dose), SCD Diet, fish oil, VSL 3, accupuncture, psyllium seed, D3, mesalamine enemas as needed. 4/17 scope showed mild inflammation in rectum only.
*5-ASA's cause severe side effects.
