I've had colitis for a few years and technically I have been in remission for some time. I say technically because I am never completely symptom free, I have a lot of inflammation. I am on the top dose of Pentasa since I got ill, as on lowering the dose I feel dreadful due to systemic inflammation that the Pentasa keeps a lid on.
Anyway, I have found that additives in food are the main cause of flares for me, so I don't eat anything with them in, particularly preservatives and emulsifiers.
But despite this I sometimes get problems still. I often get very hot stools (I don't mean a burning sensation from eating something with pepper in it, I mean the poo is hot in actual temperature) along with pressure in my bowels, where by body clearly wants to get rid of it. Along with this I get a big spike in my feeling of systemic inflammation. Two hours ago I was too ill to move, I couldn't have typed this or thought that clearly due to the inflammation. But then I passed stool, very hot and fairly lose, and since then my inflammation has been coming down and I've been feeling better.
Does anyone else get anything like this?
