Hello guys I have a question. I have been 5 months on mesalamine oral and rectal meds. Well they have worked great for my left sided colitis and I basically only have mild near invisible small patch of proctitis. I don't want to do steroids for this because they are not a long term solution so I wonder if it's a good idea for mild proctitis. My symptoms is I have small mucus ocassionally if I look very closely at poop and mild abdominal pain here and there. I also have anal sex and I have a dime of blood on toilet paper that's goes away after 4 wipes. I just want to do azathiopronf and get on full remission.

If you're already at the maximum dose of oral mesalamine (at least 4,000mgs a day) and have a rectal-route mesalamine enema (4gs a day) then I'd cobsider a low dose of azathioprine.

I swore to myself that once i was off of prednisone that I'd burn both the pills and bottle with great hedonistic enjoyment: booze, food, and dance. And if I ever need a colectomy... ;-)

Ugh but my doc actually wants to lower my mesalamine, which I find silly if I still have mild proctitis....i am getting 2nd opinion..

What's the regimen schedule for using the rectal meds exactly?

q
*Heather* I give suggestions, do with them what you will.
Status: ...Asacol 3 @ 2x daily; Salofalk enema @ 3rd night (nightly/ flares, tapered/maintenance)
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~Bentylol 20mg as needed; Zantac 150mg; Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma);Effexor XR 37.5 (depression)
~vitamins/minerals/supplements; Probiotics....(RenewLife Ultimate Flora Critical Care+Primadophilus Reuteri capsules @ bedtime)
~Metamucil capsules 7 @ 2x daily with meals; Vitamin D 4500 IU
~URSO 500mg @ 2x daily for Primary Biliary Cholangitis
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS" worth it !!!

I am taking 2.5 daily of apriso and one rectal enema at night. We never maximize the oral mesalamine. And I responded to it but not 100 percent.

Apriso has a much, much lower dose than other mesalamines and that's perfectly okay. Aa it's been proven to be as effective at lower doses.
