Hey guys, sorry if I missed it, but quick question. Does anyone refrigerate this so you so you don't have to do the juicing/clean the juicer every day?

I would also wonder if this isnt too harsh for an enema... seeing how its difficult to drink even diluted, imagine it on inflamed tissue!!

Im going to try mixing the diluted juice with psyllium... i have this idea that it will be a good vector, who knows

I don't.

I make it fresh evey day.

You may be right about using it as an enema. I'd want to check with a doctor first.

I have read that juice begins to oxidize almost as soon as it is juiced and loses nutrients as it does. I don't know if that is true of ginger and turmeric or not. But, to me it's pretty simple and quick.

As for downing it, I love the taste and look forward to it.

I do know that some people who juice do as you are planning to do, juicing in quantity and then refrigerating.

There are articles documenting sensitivity to temperature. 6-gingerols are sensitive to temperatures above 70deg Celsius but handle lower temperatures. I was making a weekly batch and refrigerating, and the efficacy was good. However I believe that jerseyguy1 is right and the oxidation begins as soon as it's juiced. The flavor and color is changed for every day it sits in the fridge. Also there is sedmiment that settles, and you have to mix to get it off the bottom, and mixing hastens the oxidation process. The Breville I use rinses clean in minutes.

Please keep us in the loop, Nourse.

I can't be the only one here who gets concerned when you say things like, "I feel the brush of death" or that you do not feel like you have a lot of longevity in front of you.

Will you make me a promise as a friend?

Will you promise me that if you feel yourself slipping in any way you will immediately call the doctor?

Just saw this, sorry Jerseyguy 1....was not trying to be alarming. I speak bluntly and was just stating how I do feel this feeling sometimes when having a flare....for me I always thought it was part of the disease....perhaps the mental part as I am positive there is a mental component of symptoms for this disease. I stay in touch with lots of people. Thank you

Interesting ginger thread I ran into, worth a look for ginger tea lovers here:

I like the comment from Jinna about kimchi. It would be the perfect colitis food - sans chilis. But, then I wonder how it would taste, probably not nearly as appealing as traditional Korean spicy kimchi. I miss spicy food.

Except for making tea off it, and using a special blender, are there other ways to consume those gingerols? other ways to eat it?

I am adding it to my homemade water kefir.....a double whammy of goodness.

Not that I know of unfortunately.

The studies are explicit that where they get the ginger from doesn't matter. I have noticed that some stores' ginger is more potent that others, but I get mine from Kroger.

Last night I was eating sushi and was remembering how much I love the pickled ginger. I had just finished doing some internet searching to determine if Ginger would be better than popping all those curcumin pills. Obviously this study was addressing the juiced ginger, but I don't know that I'd be able to stomach ginger that strong. But, I was wondering if anyone knows if eating pickled ginger would help and/or how much you'd have to eat?

Also, what I read today is that curcumin seems to be a better anti-inflammatory than ginger in general, but not necessarily for UC. Anyone seen any studies about this?

Still loving my 2 cups of ginger tea per day and consider it an important part of my routine. Still in remission, too (it'll be 4months on the 21st---symptom free).

Photogirl, I remember someone mentioned that cur cumin and ginger are both blood thinners, so I imagine together they may be too much? I'll be interested to see what someone who has tried both says.

I randomly started drinking ginger tea last week, but now will start experimenting. Only problem is that I'm on blood thinners for blood clots. I will probably have to wait until I'm released from the torture of giving myself shots everyday in my abdomen. Newly diagnosed with severe pancolitis, so I'm still not mentally caught up with disEASE. I recently found this forum, because my GI wanted me to research Humira and Remicade. Not excited about either, so I just double up on my Mesalamine. I am definitely not going to make any changes until I'm off of the blood thinners, but I will add a ginger potion as soon as I can.

very interesting.

I drink a store-brand ginger tea that I bought from the store. Would that not enough ginger? Try something with a greater amount of ginger to feel the effects? I feel better now than at any point during this 11 month flare, but i'd imagine most of it is the entyvio.

I like making it homemade because I definitely make it stronger than anything store-bought and it just tastes so fresh. I dice up peeled root (not necessary to peel I recently found out) and add about 2 inches of root for 2 quarts of water. I simmer this for 20-25 minutes and then put the lid on the pan and allow it to steep and cool a bit.

I usually have a hot cup right away and then after completely cooled keep the rest in the fridge. I have 2 cups a day. I do take little week breaks here and there to keep it special ;-)

If I have a sweet tooth I'll add some raw honey and lemon, but mostly just straight. After beginning adding ginger tea I went into remission (finally !!!) now I should add that I had been using mesalamine and probiotics for 4 months, too. But I just have this inkling that the ginger put me over the top?

Dumb question time: can someone just buy a ginger root, cut it up into small pieces, and take it with water like a medicine? has anyone tried this?

Thanks so much for posting this about the ginger tea. I use peppermint/fennel teas and also turmeric for spasms, but the ginger tea has been a game changer. I am currently on prednisone at 25mg and weaning 5 mg per week and my symptoms have been controlled since day 3 of starting the steroids, but I was getting this left side/pain and spasm off and on everyday. The ginger tea has helped firm up my BM and stop the spasms in their tracks. It works much better than peppermint and fennel and I just boil small pieces of ginger. I guess its another trick I learned from this sight. I doubt we can over do the ginger by drinking a few cups a day. I eat a lot more ginger in one sitting when I have sushi than I do when drinking the tea.

Raw ginger can be pretty strong so be careful doing that. I grate ginger (peel first) and use it to cook and some people put some raw grated ginger in their smoothies. Raw ginger is like raw garlic, some people can eat them raw and some can't. I can eat raw garlic when it's in pesto (ground basil leaves) but can't eat raw ginger in anything.

Try a little and see what your gut thinks. Careful if you're on blood thinners. I have thin skin (never been on thinners) and made a fresh ginger face wash once and got small bruises on top skin of my hands. But my gut loves ginger smile

I'm glad to hear positive responses to this thread. I do think there are some questions being asked and advice being given that contradicts a lot of what I address in the main body of text.

Circumin by itself cannot penetrate some sort of barrier at the cell level. It is hyrdophobic by nature and does not work as a treatment for UC. Studies have shown this and the doctor I cite studied why circumin doesn't work for UC.

Making ginger tea, boiling it, cooking it, or preparing it from dried sources is not good. When dried, 6-gingerols are destroyed and converted into 6-shogaols. When heated above 70 deg centigrade, the same reaction happens. It's the pulverizing of the ginger root that frees the lipids and allows them to carry the 6-gingerols into the cell, penetrating the barrier that circumin cannot penetrate.

Eating straight ginger will give you more fiber than you can handle and too few lipids will be freed from masticating. Use a process of juicing to pulverize the root and extract the 6-gingerol and lipids rich liquid that results.

This is my opinion of course and I welcome everyone to read the same studies and disagree with my interpretation. However, it's hard to provide consistent advice to people when others are contradicting it with non-uniform prep methods.

Read the first post in it's entirety, read the studies, do more reading elsewhere, then ask questions or provide advice.

Simply,

So let me get this straight... I know you have a juicer that does this for you but you're saying to stick a cut of ginger into a blender, pour that into cloth, and then you mix the remaining liquid that gets strained with some water?

This is exactly what I was doing with a Vitamix blender. At first, it seemed to help, but after a few days the effect was gone. After 2 weeks I stopped it.
