I know this isn't the introduction section, but I recently been in and out of the Hospital for colites. It started last Thursday when I was at work and had a non stop pain in the lower abdomen. This was followed by puking and several bathroom stops of diarrhea and bloody stools. That night I was concerned about the bloody stool and non stop pain, so I went to the ER. They told me after blood work(no CT) that I had hemorrhoids. I was prescribed Bentyl & Zofran and was told that it should clear up.. 2 Days later on Saturday, pain was still their and my stool was still filled with blood. I decided to go back to the ER. This time however the Doctors gave me a CT scan and told me that I have Colites. I was than prescribed 2 more medications (antibiotics) ciprofloxacin & metronidazole.

Was told by the Doctor to take it easy next few days, and that I should be well enough for work. Also to schedule a colonoscopy this following week. However while my stool has cleared up a bit, I am still having flares of pain through the day and same last night. I do landscaping, I'm worried that I'll still be in non stop pain while moving around. Is this normal to feel?, are the medications suppose to subside the negative affects?. Should I wait to get a colonoscopy before returning to work, or when my symptoms cease?.

Sorry for the long post, just don't know who else to ask about help with this condition as I am new to it. Thank you!

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It sounds like you're in a flare right now as opposed to remission. When in remission, you can live life without much of an issue. During a flare, things like landscaping can make symptoms worse just because of the stress on your body and the physical activity.

Best advice would be to talk to a doctor, maybe when scheduling your colonoscopy, and explain that you do landscaping and you arent sure whether you can work. the doctor should be able to provide some recommendations and discuss a game plan with you in regards to working.

IT is not clear you have UC. Colitis is something different.

DO the scope, get biopsies. Then make decisions and treatment plans.

Infectious colitis and can be much more painful than UC.
