Tea my last colonoscopy[june-16] just showed a severely scared colon from flares over the years. My Dr said to me in recovery room that it might be time to think of humira or remi. Being i don't have a spleen from my football days i don't want to go on meds that reduce my immunity any more.No dysplasia at all.Saw one surgeon and he agreed that surgery is best option. My stool is the big D if i don't do cortenema almost every night.Seems like colon is slowly getting less functional so surgery looks like the right thing at this point
I would still seek a second opinion. A scarred colon can lead to chronic IBS or diarrhoea, but meds don't normally work for scar tissue, which make me wonder if there is active inflammation going on as well. I presume you've tried oral/rectal mesalazines already?
As for the lack of a spleen and the use of biologics, I don't know what the risks are. All I can say is I've had my colon removed, and my immune system seems more rubbish than ever. But statistically I don't think there is any link between not having a colon and increased risk of infection. I dunno. If I was in your shoes, I feel pretty sure I would try Remi or Humira first, but you seem to have made up your mind already. And maybe surgery is the right thing to do for you
, even though I don't think it would be for me.
