Well have had BIG D since early October[whats longest u had BIG D?}.Just went on Pred 2 weeks ago bc D was making me feel weak.Everything just running out of me.Had few accidents during sleep week before i took Pred .Try to get as empty as possible before i head out every morning for work, have no problem holding anything in,i don't let it linger. If i have urge i go ASAP.So i guess this is the way it will be til January surgery.Usually Pred will get my stool back to normal within 48-72 hours. Not this time. Not doing many cortenemas now,no blood.Another chapter in my 32 yrs of having this nasty disease, surgery can't get here soon enough.Prayers to u all

You poor thing! Longest I've had D? Gosh, I can't even keep track. I am sure i had it the entire 18 months I was flaring before surgery. Hopefully things calm. Have you tried to restrict your diet at all? Or maybe probiotics? What do you take for your UC besides pred? Maybe the cortenemas aren't the best option if they aren't helping? Could you try Uceris or mesalamine, or cortifoam?

Im a male 6'5-235lbs who likes to eat.Just eating smaller portions now.I take Acidopolous every day and multi vitamin[are they running right thru me??].Over 32 years I've been on every ASA etc etc etc.Uceris made me bleed when i took it.Right now i think area that cortenemas or cortifoam would help is actually ok[no blood].Cortenemas didn't bind me up at all in last few weeks.I think the BIG D is my colon flaring and only Pred is keepimg imflamation down.If i don't get any worse til surgery i should be ok.I wanted to be off steroids before surgery.Surgeon and Gastro said its ok if I'm still on them, recovery is better if I'm off them i hear.

Hey, sorry to hear that. I know what you're going through in terms of D, I had it for weeks on end when I used to flare. These suggestions together will seriously help you get some formed poo's again:

1. Cut out any abrasive foods (vegetable/potato peel, corn, anything with seeds and nuts including hamburger buns and tomatoes, for example). Cut out coffee and cheese for now as well. Stick to whole foods for now (meat, fish, eggs, etc.). Steer clear from wheat products as much as possible.

2. Buy Qing Dai (blue powder used in chinese medicine) and take 1g in the morning washed down with a few swigs of water. Numerous studies online (Google is our friend) talk about the efficacy of it's detox properties in the colon

3. Start taking S. Boullardii capsules (3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon) These will help your to start producing formed stool again

You'll notice a big change in the first week. Best of luck!
Continue to take your steroids as normal.

P.S. No, I do not have a web site selling products or solutions, you can check my post history : ) But I can testify to what helped me after a LOT of trial and error

Actually I was hardly passing any stool, it was mostly just blood...all day every day...for 10 months until I had surgery this past October. While on high-dose prednisone and stelara--I don't know how I lasted so long in the shape I was in. I woke up feeling 100x better! I hope everything goes smoothly for you and that you feel great afterwards.

Are you taking any imodium and an anti-spasm medication? Those would help me through the work days.

You've got about 6 weeks left, I'd stick with what your GI recommends. Any "treatments" other than Prednisone will take some time to work. You are looking for a bandaid for the symptoms not a treatment.

Refresh my memory, are you going for a 2 or 3 step surgery?

You're certainly tough-stuff to delay surgery until January! Hang in there, and at least there is a clear path ahead to the new UC-free you! It'll be worth the wait. Better than any xmas present you've ever gotten! Freedom from the worries and struggles of UC!

However, if you relapse badly before January, then I wouldn't hesitate to get it done as an emergency surgery. Just be careful!

I know that you don't want to try an antibiotic because of past experiences but I'd recommend ask your GI about xifaxan. It is mild on the digestive tract and could help you. It is a treatment for Travelers diarrhea, IBS and SIBO. I use it sometimes for Pouchitis.

It doesn't have the side-effects that regular antibiotics have.

You're just looking for a bandaid for a few weeks.

I think in the shape I'm in now i can last til January,i have that slight pain in upper groin area that lets me know i have gas or BIG D.No imodium,I Poop i truly believe in not being a hostage to this terrible disease[not easy thinking that way sometimes].I am a contractor that has to be at job every day which helps me do my pit stops in my Van[5 gal buckets] or Fast food places etc.So i just go in the morning but it definetly is time for surgery.Im working up til Xmas then lil vacation at home before surgery. Thanks everyone-God bless u all
