Hello. This is my first time posting, but not my first time on the site. Just looking for any helpful advice in dealing with UC. I’m going on now a year with it and I feel a lot better now then when I first had symptoms. But that doesn’t mean new things are coming up that I’ve never felt before, like chest pain/discomfort (scares me alittle since my uncle, who’s diabetic, just had triple bipass) and feeling more gassy. Any advice with regards on how to deal with some of these things, as well as some food advice is greatly appreciated. If it helps, I’m currently on Mesalamine 1.2 g 4 times a day, Vitamin D once a week and rectal enema. Thank you.

Any chest pain should send you to the doctor especially if you have IBD, I ignored mine and ended up with multiple PE’s and they said it was from the disease. Now I’m on blood thinners and they make things a lot worse. It can happen to anyone no matter how young you are! But it could also just be heartburn so you could try maybe an antacid first but if things don’t get better or you get short of breath call your doctor...

Thank you. I’ll try the antacid first since it seems to corolate with the gas. But last time I had chest discomfort, I went to urgent care found nothing with the X-rays. They figured it was inflammation. Before that, it was the two antibiotics that the gastrologist put me on.

If you have chest pain and gas...see a cardiologist soon! My wife had a heart attack while raking leaves a few years ago. She took some aspirin and waited about 5 hours before finally deciding 'something doesn't feel right'. She had been having a heart attack. It doesn't have to be crushing pain. Better to get checked out and find out it's gas than wait for 'the big one'.

Mesalamine can cause heart inflammation as a rare side effect, although you said the xray was clear...

We're also much more prone to clots like DVT or pulmonary embolism as UC patients.

Make sure you have those possibilities eliminated.

I’ll se. I’m also wondering if its a pulled muscle since I leave in New York and we just had that snow storm. I work at a college so when it snows like that, we are first responders and we have to come in and shovel.
