I lost so much weight when I had my loop ileo (j-pouch creation), nutrients and fluids just ran right through me. I even had to switch to a larger bag because I had to empty it so often.
If you are really sick then I'd go for the 3-step. I lost about
10% of my body weight when I had my loop, that might be an anomaly for most people. It's tough to recover from if you're really sick and I'm assuming that you're really sick because you are currently in the hospital.
If you go for a two step surgery then you get a Loop ileo right away.
If you are up for it then go for it, I'm not trying to persuade or scare you. It was just my experience that I would have been miserable with a 2-step.
The other thing, if you have a 3 step then you start off with an end Ileo, that would be the type of permanent Ileo that you'd get if you had your pouch removed. it's much easier to live with and most people like it.
