"First, how long can one stay on this before side effects are a big concern?"
Generally, you should be on steroid enemas daily, like entocort, for 2-months or less. Rectal-route steroids are 90% topical and 10% systematic. They're the equivalent of being on a very, low dosage of prednisone like 10-mgs or less a day. So any side effects you might experience from a steroid at that level is going to be very mild (possibly some acne, mild moodiness, slight increase in appetite, etc.). Over the years here, it seems like some are more sensitive to steroids and get more side effects sooner and more severely than others. Therefore some experience side effects quickly, others take a lot longer, and some never experience them at all.
"Second, how long should a taper last for? How do you know when you’re ready to stop altogether (I’ll stay on the Salofalk though)."
There's no prescribed taper pattern for rectal-route steroids. I'd do every-other-day for a while, every 2nd or 3rd day, once a week zero, or something like that. You will either do fine without them or not. You'll find out fairly soon. There's never any knowing beforehand with steroids.
"Ps. What IS this weird uncomfortable rumbling? Does anyone else get it?"
It's likely increased gas trapped in your bowel. As I've healed from flares, increased gas on the tail-end of flares seems to be fairly common. It does go away as I fully heal. Trapped gas can cause mild pains/discomfort as well. Do you take any probiotics? I ask as probiotics can cause a lot of flatulence...
