If I cheat on the diet and eat bread and rice, then I have a lot more energy in the short window between cheating on the diet and flare commencement.

can't say i've noticed that when i stray but it's quite possible it does occur - but the choice is easy for me as i/m sure it is for you - flaring sucks -

funny thing - not only have i had UC for 15 some years, but somehow i've also managed to get 15 years OLDER !

honestly can't answer that question - it's what my diet is, for now and forever more - so i'll never really know -

and i had a heart valve replaced 14 months ago, that has extended my life, but the recovery has been a bit slow - so all in all, it's really hard for me to address a low energy question with any amount of certainty -

oh, also on my list > seasonal affective disorder - sucks the life right outa me - and the truth, if i'm functioning on say 85% of normal already, then add another life sucker to the list, well you do the math - we have had a stupid winter this year with not much snow, and way too many overcast, sunless days - and still recovering from last summers fire/smoke fest -

like most issues, i don't think there is a single source -
