Hi SteveUC, I'm fairly new here as well and signed up for very similar reasons. I was scared and had questions galore.
I was diagnosed w/ UC in August 2017. Had IB issues most my life but I'd always figured I knew what it was; lactose intolerance, greasy foods, or stomach bugs. It's been on and off since I was about
ten years old. I'm now thirty-seven.
I've had some ups and downs and even a brief period of clinical remission. Symptoms come and go now but I've found that making some changes in my day to day life has helped immensely along with my medication.
I moved to a strict vegetarian diet and often use smoothies as a meal replacement; especially on bad days when my nausea won't let up. I take Probiotics daily, use CBD 2-3 times daily, sleep when I feel the need (even mid afternoon), and I was approved for accommodations at work to help with my stress levels. A lot of trial and error involved. Honestly I still find foods, beverages, etc that end up being a no go. I literally have a check list going
If your doctor didn't tell you; stress can cause flares. So do your best to keep your worrying to a minimum. It's hard, I know, I'm a mega worrier myself. But I talk with my family often, especially my hubby, and spend lots of quality time with my son. I do my best not to let my symptoms get me down.
There is light, most definitely, but it takes more work now to keep it bright. Make time for yourself and relax as much as you can. Do the things that make you happy and you'll be just fine.
