I'm not sure if I qualify for your exact question because I no longer have a colon but I was originally diagnosed with UC. What was your loading dose? Was the loading dose an IV or an injection? What is your maintenance dosage? I'm 90mgs every 56 days, it works well for me. The FDA approved dosing is a weight-based IV loading dose and then 90mgs every 56 days.
I originally started out with the psoriasis dosing because the FDA had not approved Stelara for CD. It was 45mgs every 90 days. At those levels Stelara did not work very well for me and I needed antibiotics with it. During that time I had to discontinue Stelara for 6 months due to my hip surgery and while I was off of Stelara the FDA approved it for Crohns. When I restarted Stelara they gave me the loading dose and the 56 day 90mg injection schedule. Stelara works a lot better for me at the higher doses; I haven't taken antibiotics since.
My GI is very excited with Stelara, he puts many of his patients on it. Last time I saw him he told me a story about
one of his patients who needed their colon removed because nothing worked for him. He paid out of pocket (insurance didn't pay for it) for the Stelara and it saved him from surgery.
