Personally, I got my first flare after i stopped smoking weed (still flaring). At first i thought i was having some kind of withdraw, but I realized it was more serious. I had a fecal calprotectin over 1000. I foolishly tried smoking again in between that stool test and a scope. While only smoking weed, no UC meds, everything looked normal, except a small patch of Non specific colitis. The doctor told me i had ibs. I continued smoking for a few more months and I stopped for good, fared again a few weeks later and had another scope which showed Pan-colitis. The scopes were done about
7 months apart. However, during this time i was not completely symptom free and actually felt horrible although my bathroom frequency/urgency/consistency all improved, i still did not feel close to good. From my experience I believe marijuana can benefit some people with UC (it almost completely healed my colon, even the biopsies were normal), but I actually feel a lot better now that i quit. Plus, if i smoke and stop, the flares come back twice as hard. Muchies can also lead to some poor food choices. Maybe it would work better on someone without such a high tolerance like myself. IDK
