When I was on 40mg of pred, I split the dose: 20mg in the morning and 20mg in the evening. My symptoms were so severe that if I didn't do the evening dose, I would have full on 10/10 symptoms all night, so I wasn't sleeping.
As I tapered the pred, I would take 5mg from each side. I'd start by taking 5mg from the evening dose, then on the next taper take from the morning dose. For example, tapering down to 35mg I would take 20mg in the morn and 15mg at night. At 30mg, I would do 15 and 15.
Now I am down to 15mg and I have some symptoms returning, so I am holding here. I think I tapered too fast, actually. My disease is not under control, probably because of diet. I've been eating a lot of sugar and things I shouldn't. Also there has been a lot of emotional stress lately. I am getting a PCR stool test to look for things but I have my doubts it's related to that. Just recalcitrant UC as usual.
So right now it's 10mg in the morning and 5mg in the evening for a total of 15mg. At this low level of pred, I'm wondering if it makes sense to shift the entire dose to the AM. I'm just wondering if my body has gotten used to the split dose, and if I move it all to the morning am I going to really feel awful come evening?
The reason I'm tapering pred before my disease is totally under control is that I have been on it for 3 months and my doctor is concerned about it wrecking my body. They are sending me for a bone scan in a few weeks. He really put the fear of god in me about it... like I am going to have the body of an old man soon. I might not go lower than 15mg for a while until my symptoms are better managed. At least 15mg is not 40mg. Thank you for reading.
