Constipation = my nemesis

Ive always had issues with constipation with my UC. Ive been in remission for over 5 years and just now had a flare a couple weeks ago. Started 40 mg of prednisone, down to 30 and now everything has just stopped again. And while Im good with no more 15 trips to the bathroom as day...now there has been no movement for 6 days. I've been taking Miralax for the last 4 days (2 times yesterday)...and now Im feeling the need to resort to stimulant laxative just to get some relief.

In my remission, I would try to do Miralax a few times a week, just to stay somewhat regular.

Anyone else with these issues and advise for a quick cure? Its getting uncomfortable to say the least.

Thanks all...(drinking prune juice as I type...)

Some people swear that psyllium seed is their answer to regularity.
My gut hates almost all fiber pills and heavy fiber veggies so I have to be very attentive to eating some cooked spinach every day (not a lot, 1 TB) plus resistant starch as in potatoes or rice pasta.

Fiber actually causes constipation for me.
Have you tried fiber pills? many types to test out. Citrucel is tolerated the best for me but again so many here like psyllium there must be a reason.

You should do a week of no fiber in your diet (no nuts, oatmeal, popcorn, whole grain bread, etc) and see if things are better.
Then the next week take fiber pill daily and see if that is better.

Right now however you could use one of the enema types that act as a laxative. Can't remember the name. Non prescription.
It really is your gut giving it's opinion.

Ive eaten a vegetarian diet (some eggs and cheese) for the last 18 years, so I get plenty of fiber from mostly veggies. My one caveat is that I need to probably exercise more to get things moving.

I just didnt think that I would go back to constipation so quickly after starting such a bad flare 2 weeks ago.

I used to think I was the same, but having a constricted rectum can also feel like constipation.

Are you stools actually dry and hard?

Magnesium Citrate usually works quite well for cleaning out the system, but I wouldn't rely on it.

Inflammation is probably more the issue....rectal meds.

Yeah, do you think it is due to flaring or just constipation?
