Been diagnosed with UC over a year ago but these symptoms are relatively new to me. I am starting to get gassy and rumbling sounds in my stomach. It's worse when I eat certain foods but can be present to some degree even when I have not eaten in a long time. Also I feel a pressure like feeling, its not particularly painful but dull/gnawing. Is this bloating that I hear about? It's not always present just sometimes or could I be experiencing something else?

I'm currently suffering from this. It's certainly interesting. I've been taking PPI's (protonix) and IBGard (from walgreens/CVS, just little capsules of peppermint, they actually help).

Yup I am on PPI's as well which have helped a bit but still not 100. I am hoping this passes soon it's been at least a month of discomfort now.

I really find it to be dependent on whatever I have ate. Things higher in fat are problematic for me, and also anything with a lot of carbonation.

Gas and bloating could be related to something you ate, randomness, or possibly early signs of an upcoming UC flare (some of the veterans here foretell flares when they see that happening).

How long has this been going on (a day, days, a week, weeks, a month, months)?

How consistent is it (every day, once a week, occasionally, etc.)?

We (IBDers) like to blame everything wrong digestively on UC/CD but in fact we can have other GI issues like SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) which is more common with extreme gas and bloating. You can get tested for SIBO with an at home test or in office, it is a breathing test. SIBO is much easier to treat than UC.

It's been going on for a month. Some days better then others. For instance today and yesterday were not bad not very noticeable but the two days prior were really bad.

"It's worse when I eat certain foods" Which foods? Have you tried gluten-free or dairy-free for 3-4 weeks to see if it helps?

It’s weird for me after 4 years that I’m still finding foods I could eat before uc are now bugging me. Just this month I noticed I can’t eat eggs. They give me awful gas, pains, and bloating. Like awful awful clear the room painful gas. I’m not sure if it’s my gut or a reaction from one of my medicines because I’ve eaten Eva’s my entire life with no problems.

I have to journal my foods and symptoms to pinpoint the foods. After 6 months of on and off pain, and fear that a flare was imminent, I cut out eggs and feel great.

Not quite sure because my meals usually have a bit of everything. However all natural peanut butter, probably regular peanut butter as well but I don't eat that makes it worse for sure.

I found another trigger yesterday that I was suspecting. When I eat really nutrient dense salads. For instance I had one yesterday with kale, spinach and argula in it along with other raw vegetables. After that salad my stomach was pretty upset with me and gassy.

Create a food diary where you record what you eat and your symptoms afterwards?

Elimination diets are sometimes helpful. Eat the same exacts meal for a week or two and then slowly change one thing at-a-time to look for a reaction. Certain foods might cause intolerances or allergies (gluten and dairy are the more common ones but literally anything can).

Lots & lots of food causes gas. I swear my husband could make wallpaper peel off the walls. I finally went to the drugstore & bought him some OTC stuff. He was killing me & he does not have IBD, I am the one with those issues. Pepper, is a culprit for causing gas & believe me, it's true with him. You may want to do a search on gas causing foods, you will be surprised.

What do you mean by trigger exactly?
And how long after eating do you feel gassy?

Have you been checked for h. Pylori?

Hour and a half approximately after. I have had the uretha breath test came back negative, although my GI sometime in the near future wants to do a gastroscopy to confirm that and check things out.

Constant rumbling in my tummy is one of the first signs of a flare for me. I actually get less gas now than pre-UC, for some reason. I think it's because with the oral and rectal meds I'm on, I am usually pretty cleared out (pre-UC I got constipated a lot). But if I'm flaring, I think I do have more gas and I definitely feel bloated a lot. Prednisone also makes me feel bloated.

Those foods sound like the sulphurous group. A biome shifted toward sulfur reducing bacteria has issues with things like green veggies, eggs, dairy, onions and garlic. I had a pretty bad issue with that for a while which included smelly gas and bloating. This is only based off a few foods though so not definitive. Vinegar foods make this worse as well.
