Hi I'm new here. UC x 17 years. I've been on Remicade x 10 years..stopped taking 2 years ago. Started working with Dr Snow holistic GI protocol x 1 year ago. Doing well when first started working with him then found skin cancer that had to be removed 1-2 months later. Stitches opened during treatment causing infection and 5 antibiotics to treat. This sent me into a c diff induced UC flare up. I was unable to leave my home for months.
I have always found correlations with my cycle, would always get "mini flares" monthly, even when on Remicade. I also would go without having my cycle after having big flare ups. I've gone 3-4 months after every big flareup with no period. My GI pretty much laughed at me, and said there was no scientific data to support any correlation with hormones. Smh..I explained that may be true, but that's what happens with me. I have recently found a new GI doc.
Last year, I went to my GYN for my that time I had gone 4 months with no period following a flareup. She ran labs, lots and lots of labs!! It showed that my LH was at a postmenopausal range...I was only 35 at that time and had absolutely not gone through menopause!! She said early menopause and before we decided on treatments I started my cycle. I had normal cycles x 6-8 months. Then flareup in December 2017, now no period x 6 months. This is the longest I've gone without. I know it has something to do with how much stress the body is under during a flareup but why can't any doc explain this. They are all very quick to say is early menopause!! I am having lots of symptoms...irritability, increased anxiety, VERY painful intercourse, not sleeping well, bloating and indigestion at bedtime.

Has anyone else experienced this? It's so frustrating!! I'm so glad I found this forum...I finally see that many women have found increased symptoms during periods...which is comforting to know I'm not crazy as doc tried to make me believe eyes

I am surprised -- it seems obvious to me that a flare up can disrupt the menstrual cycle! Any kind of severe illness can, so can bouts of anorexia. When I had my first flare I was not even in premenopause and my period became very erratic. I wasn't anorexic but my body basically went into the same mode, I was very malnourished and losing lots of weight. Isn't it normal for the menstrual cycle to shut down in those conditions??

I never had labs done, well not for my period, so I can't tell you what was going on with my hormones. Thinking back, I'm pretty sure my periods went back to normal within hmmm maybe 3 months of the end of my flare? You mentioned flareup in Dec 17, is it still ongoing? Or have you gone 6 months without a period AFTER your flare ended?

There are been some posts from people in the past on this subject:

If you search you will find more.

I wouldn't mind not getting my period anymore but i don't want to deal with the other symptoms.

Yes good point @Serenity now! In the past I have always gone to the hospital and, after high doses of steroids, puts me back in remission...but I guess I have not fully gone into remission until recently. I have not even thought about that...but again I feel like I've been in a fog for past 8 months 😢 Yes, 3-4 months have always been when I've magically seen my cycle reappear too.
Ive also wondered if since I've been on the holistic protocol, using cow colostrum, if that has affected my hormones more?? I haven't found anything that says it does. Actually everything I've found online says it supports hormonal balance.
Is there a way to search for topics on colostrum use in UC on the forum? I'd love to see how it has affected others who have tried it? Thanks so much for your help! Ill definitely take a look @notsosicklygirl thank you!!

MM, you can use the google search here at the top left. Type in UC forum & colostrum. If there are any posts in the archives this will pull them up.
