Hello, I have had COLITIS symptoms from my 20s and Dx in 2002. I had one flare in 15 years until a few months ago. Anyhow a Serrated Sessile polyp was found on the right side and active COLITIS 40 cm bottom end up.

My last scope was 2 years ago and they removed 2 polyps in my rectum. Otherwise i was in complete remission. It was suggested to ask you as you have experienced this. Sorry you went through it, but gratefull you share your knowledge with us on this board.
UC 20+ yrs in remission until Oct 2018. Formerly known here as Sassy
Left sided Colitis currently active.
5 ASA 3200mg daily during active disease
Proctosone ointment down below

Hi Sassy - I believe I remember you!
My GI had found a sessile serrated polyp several years ago on a scoping and repeated the scope some months later, with dye so he could see better: a chromendoscopy. He never found another one. There was not that much info available, even to my GI, a big deal guy at an Ivy League teaching hospital.

But, not sure if related or not; he found other random, single dysplasia cells. So we kept doing scopes every 6 months. Then, a year ago last Fall, there was a narrowing in the colon which had not been there 6 months earlier.

I met with a surgeon. We were all hoping the narrowing was the result of scarring from long-time inflammation, but I scheduled surgery for J pouch anyway.
So I had that done and they found Stage 3 colon cancer (adenomatous.) The surgeon told me he got it all and I'd be fine; I had 6 months of preventative chemo, then J pouch reversal, and here I am.

I don't want to be scary, but... I'd get scoped fairly frequently. And I wish I'd had the surgery earlier - the chemo was not pleasant.
Age 62. Diagnosed UP 1983, UC 1986
Step One surgery on 12/28/17.
Surgery: planned. The colon cancer they found: a surprise.
Prior meds: sulfasalizine, Asacol, Delzicol, Lialda,
6 MP, Humira, Metamucil
two hips replaced thanks to pred.
6 months of chemo finished 7/9/18
Reversal to J pouch 8/9/18

Thanks Songlady, you really have been through a lot. I need to stop feeling sorry for myself. We are close in age and I think it was in the mid 80,s when my first symptoms appeared. Did you have any diet issues in your teens? I did. Anorexia, bulimia and even used X lax to rid myself of calories. That's probably why I ended up with UC. However my mom now has unforgiving microscopic colitis for 10 yrs now and she will be 80 soon. All she can do is take Imodium..

Sassy, I have been overweight since I was a kid, and the most radical thing I ever did was to try to eat tuna and/or a large apple for lunch and count calories, so I can't blame my UC on much. I figure it's genetics and some trigger, maybe too many antibx, maybe prolonged stress. I developed UC after several years in a stressful job for which I was poorly suited. I have a lot of family members in the extended family who have IBD, although no one ever talked about it until I started asking questions.

Sorry for your mom's issues. Has she tried probiotics? They have always helped me.

Best to you, and keep us posted!
