How bad are your symptoms currently (# of bms a day, any blood, any urgency)?
There's a few different delayed-release coating formulations.
1.) MMX plastic, PH-based formulations: apriso, asacol, delzicol, Lialda-brandnamed and Shire generic. Some subtle variations in PH required to dissolve coating and release rate.
2.) Ethacellulose, water-absorbent formulations: pentasa and zydus generic lialda. These generally release a bit higher, starting in the small intestine.
3.) Protomesalamines: Balsalazide Disodium, Sulfasalazine, and Dipentum/olsalazine. These generally release a bit higher, starting in the small intestine.
It's possible you might have a slightly better response with 2 or 3, if you've only tried 1. However, these subtle differences aren't going to stop a severe flare in it's tracks. I'd consider it more like you have minor, nagging symptoms left and would see if a switch might resolve them.
