Hello all,
I currently have a severe UC flare up the is being persistent. My GI doctor has me on Prednisone 40 mg tapper down, Balasazide and Rowasa enema.

Any recommendations on taking iron supplement? Dealing with anemia and feeling tired often.

Also, anyone tried "GI Repair Nutrients" by Vital Nutrients? It contains some herbs in addition to other ingredients and want to avoid any interaction with medications and most importantly avoid any agitation with flare up.

Any success with Fish oils as well? Eating fish seems to tolerate well with my digestive system during flare up.

If in a couple weeks the flare doesn't improve Dr recommends Remicade...really hoping GI settles down with help of perhaps supplements etc to heal and avoid next steps of infusion.

Welcome to the forum, but sorry to hear you are struggling with a severe flare!

Iron supplements can worsen bowl symptoms: increase diarrhea, cause black stool. You can try them just know that those can occur. IV-route iron is often better tolerated (but only used if your iron score is low enough to justify it). If your iron is just slightly low, they might recommend a supplement.

Remicade has been great for me, in a remission over the long term, with no side effects. If it comes to remicade, it has worked well for many of us!

There's a variety of supplements mentioned to try here over the years. Turmeric/curcumin, Fish oil, probiotics, prebiotics, LDN, among many other things (you can see them within the signatures of the various posters here). Just know that supplements can cause side effects too, as an example, tumeric is a blood thinner so you will bleed more. You are taking the word of the various posters, there are no supplements that are fully vetted and approved for the treatment of UC (a few had small scale, open labeled studies done which are known for inaccuracy).

There's no harm in trying alternatives if you are so inclined. However, I do encourage you to continue working with your gasteroenteroligist and taking your prescribed meds. Some have had luck trying traditional meds together with alternatives.

I have only one suggestion.....if you start a thread, answer the questions members have asked you rather than starting new threads with new topics and more and more information.
