Are you saying UC itself causes osteoporosis, or as a consequence of taking prednisone? So if one has UC but has never taken pred, do we still have higher risk and should ask for a bone scan?
I dunno. I never took pred and my bones are fine, but it wouldn't hurt to get a bone scan. I was affected by one of the many side effects of UC, ankylosing spondylitis, which is arthritis of the spinal cord.
