Does anyone know if Xeljanz causes weight gain? I have been on it for 5 weeks and tapered off Prednisone a week ago. I feel very bloated and uncomfortable. I was on Prednisone for a total of 6 months out of 12. I am sure the Prednisone causes the weight gain, but I still feel pretty bloated being off Prednisone. I did ask a pharmacist and was told weight gain is not a side effect of Xeljanz.

I hate to say it, but prednisone weight is not the easiest to get rid of. It was a big chore for me. I had to work out a ton... Water retention is a problem with prednisone too. You could try limiting salt, and get on a clean eating/exercise plan, and I think you will start feeling more like yourself in a few months, or less.

I'd blame the prednisone. You still might have some water-retention/bloating 1-week post prednsione. It can take 2-4 weeks for the bloating to go down. Any weight gain from over-eating (pred's insatiable appetite) will not go away on it's own, rather responsible eating and light exercise over the next 6-8 months will get rid of that.

When I tapered off of pred, I had gained 14-pounds, 2-pounds was shed as water weight. The rest was from over-eating. I had lost 17 pounds during the onset of my flare, so I was just about where I wanted to be, weight-wise.
