I am looking for a protein drink that will help increase my energy. I recently tried a whey product and it encreased my energy significantly however, I experience a major flare-up. My question to the group is: what types of protein powder have you found helpful other the whey?

Pea protein and brown rice protein powders are supposed to be easier on your gut.

I stayed away from whey protein when I was flaring.

There’s an Aloha brand that is plant based — pea protein as I recall. I bought the powder at Target and made smoothies with it and kefir, also added fresh grated ginger and banana and chia seeds.

Now that's the creativity I am looking for. I have not seen any Aloha powder before but my Gut tells me it would be good for me. Love the combination. I will definitely give it a try.

None they are all terrible for you. Likely the sugar or caffeine-like additives that gave you energy. This is a completely unregulated sham industry. There is nothing healthy about processed protein powders. Even the plant based organic stuff is loaded with arsenic.

I agree that they are completely unnecessary.

Better to just make your own with natural ingredients and a blender. I take whole milk, whole yogurt, banana and peanut butter and put it in my blender. Yummy!

I doubt the drink caused the flare up, and I agree with the others, I've never found any reason to spend money on these things. Just my experience. We all want to find a simple solution to explain why a flare happened, but the bottom line is that we have a chronic condition. You could never drink that protein drink again and you will still flare up eventually. It's not the drink but the condition itself, so if you liked that drink, and it made you feel better, I'd probably try it again. It's easy to get caught up in blaming anything and everything for a swing in health.
