Hi,
I'm have been started using prednisone (Decortin) two months ago, doctor started me on 40mg and I'm now down to 10mg.

Since I started taking them my sleep has gone to crap, and I started to snore really loud! I sleep at most 3-4 hours and I'm tired during the day. I just crash sometime during the day and during the evening and "sleep" for 1-2 hours, but really low quality sleep so I'm still tired.

I thought that things will improve when I'm down under 20mg but things are not improving.

Is this normal?

Hi! Sorry to hear you're struggling to sleep.

If you're taking it in the morning then change your routine so you take the 10mg moments right before you go to bed instead. Give it a couple of days and you should be fine.

I agree with Kevin. You can also try taking a Benadryl before bed or some other sleep aid temporarily. I know how much it sucks not sleeping! It should go back to normal soon.

I had a similar issue. Started at 40mg and tapered down slowly to nothing. I would wake up at 4:00 am every day, and on weekends I could nap for hours in the day. I was on vacation for two weeks while tapering from 5mg to nothing. I think over time my body is just used to waking up at 4:00 am. I did have some success three weeks ago with a body pillow and a weighted blanket, when I woke up I would retrieve these items from the floor and go back to sleep for a few hours. This lasted about three or four days before my vacation. After a week of not sleeping properly on vacation I started to force myself to stay in bed and I did go back to sleep about three days in a row. Now I’m off prednisone and I’m back home and I’m waking up at 4:00 am. I think I need to practice good sleep hygiene habits to get back into a good habit. Sleep hygiene such as a walk and a bath before bed, a consistent bed time and then the weighted blanket/ body pillow again. (I thought the clocks changing would solve my problem but it didn’t)

Prednisone withdrawal is often characterized by fatigue and general body aches.

Can you request a sleeping pill from your doctor? I couldn't sleep on any dose of pred.

You might be able to get your doctor to prescribe you some Ambien. That's what my doctor gave me so I could sleep.
