For the first time in 2 years my CRP & Sed rate are normal!!!! In fact everything is normal! I am not ready to use te R word yet, but I am 99% there!

Glucose is back in range too after being high for almost a year due to prednisone!

You all are probably the only people who can understand how absolutely fabulous it is to have normal blood tests lol

Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!! smile

Entyvio worked great for me for over a year and then it stopped. I was bummed. But I have a better feeling about remicade. I think it's going to work for years and years.

Congratulations! I’m so happy for yousmile

I want to ask personal questions too, because I’m obsesssed with my own health at the moment: how do you feel? Do you have more energy to get things done? Do you have normal BM’s?

That is how you do it. Way to go!

May your R word last forever.

It probably goes without saying, but any advice I hand out should be weighed against the fact that they had to cut my colon out.

So happy for you CC! You know I was having sort of IBS symptoms last November but no blood. I had a colo and it was completely normal. I was anxious so started lexapro and then all ibs symptoms went away. So even if you are having minor symptoms your scope would probably be normal! Remicade is awesome!
Thanks

Rosie -- I feel pretty good. Don't have 100% energy back but close. BMs are formed, but sometimes looser than others.

Countess, I had a scope at the end of Sept that showed moderate inflammation in sigmoid & rectum. Pretty sure that's gone now or at most very mild. I'm not ready to declare remission yet is because it's only been 2 weeks since I last saw blood. Blood is always the last thing to go for me so if all is well for another 2 weeks I'll be celebrating!

Thanks everyone. I was so excited to have such normal blood work I had to share ... and all of you are the only people I can think of who can appreciate how good that feels.

woo hoo has turned to boo hoo sad

Quite a bit of blood today and looser stools. Over the weekend I did have a good bit of junk food which likely accounts for the looser stools. I suspect the blood is because I was talking ibuprofen for several days this past week due to knee issues and tylenol wasn't cutting it ... the ibuprofen didn't take all the pain away either so now I have an appt with another doc for my knee. (I've had osteoarthritis in my knee for years, but since the weather changed it has become extremely painful)

I'll be back on enemas tonight and will just have to suck up the knee pain until I can see the doc next week.

Ups and downs of this lovely disease! It’s still early for you but I think you’re on the path. That path may be a bit hilly and full of rocks at the moment but will hopefully smooth again soon!

Stool is completely back to normal since I stopped the ibuprofen. The blood stopped completely by Wednesday.

Thursday night I resorted to popping some prednisone to reduce the inflammation in my knee since I didn't have anything else. That seems to be working. It's not completely better yet, but at least I don't feel like crying with every step now and it's not as stiff.

I see an ortho specialist on Monday for the knee. I now suspect it's bursitis rather than the arthritis. Hoping he can get me into phsyical therapy pretty quickly because I can't stay on prednisone. I started it at 20mg 2x.day and am tapering starting today. My self dosing plans to get me off of them on Monday ~fingers crossed~ Also going to ask the doc if I can try a topical NSAID and see if that works without affecting my UC.

Be sure to advise the ortho you took the prednisone. Prednisone works on the inflammation with OA too.

Have you tried any of the pain patches such as Salon Pas or Tiger Balm that has some lidocaine in them? At least the lidocaine gives a little relief. I don't know if you have had an MRI done on your knee, but I would not be shy about asking for one. Do you have a lot of swelling?

The cold temps affect both of my knees something terrible. You may want to try moist heat, moist heat goes deeper than dry heat. I am told knee replacements, but I just can't go there in my head. I have had enough scopes done to them already. I had the Supaartz injections done but it's not a permanent fix either.

One thing that has helped me more than anything is getting in the pool in the summer months. I sit on a noodle & do kicks. In water you are weightless & cannot cause an injury. I went from not being able to bend or squat down, say to clean a bath tub. My knees were so bad that we had the tub taken out & had a larger shower with bench installed. I was falling too much getting in/out of the tub. This has helped more than all of the PT that I have done over the years.

Good luck on Monday.

Good you stopped the ibuprophen....regarding the pred, I've heard of dosages of 60mg for 5 days and then dropped for various ailments of inflammation.

Looking forward to your update on Monday.

Susie -- I will def let the doc know about the pred. I bought some lidocaine cream today and just now applied it. Hope it helps with the pain. After a couple hours of shopping today my knee is really hurting badly at the moment. Sitting here with my leg propped up with an cold rice bag on it. I thought I was supposed to use cold for inflammation sad I'll go throw the rice bag in the microwave and apply some heat! It is swollen, but not like I would have an injury I don't think. So far I have only had x-rays. I had PT for my other knee a couple years ago and it worked wonders so am hoping that it will do the trick for this knee too,

Heather -- I was on 60 mg in Feb after 40 did nothing for my UC. 60 was the magic number and worked wonders. 2 days after being on that dose I could actually leave the house again. Pred does horrible things to me though. I was really desperate to try it for my knee!

I also bought some ginger root today. Someone else said that it helps them. I like ginger so am going to make some ginger tea

So annoying that I was finally feeling like I was in remission and now I have this knee issue. Looking forward to some nice boringly healthy days ahead once the knee is resolved!

Susie -- doc today recommended euflexxa injections. I think it's similar to Supartz. Did that help you?

Doc says I have mild to moderate OA. I was surprised (but happy) that he used the word "mild" because this really hurts! Trying some stuff (ginger root tea, Voltaren gel, tylenol) that will hopefully help until I get the shots and do physical therapy.

When I got my hip replaced I refused all NSAIDS. The surgeon offered me a topical NSAID ointment for the surgical area. I had to go through a compounding pharmacy to get it so I never filled the script because I didn’t need it after I got out of the hospital.

Maybe you could get an NSAID ointment for your knee so it isn’t so systemic and effects your colon.

I never take NSAIDs, I personally would rather deal with the pain than risk a flare. Just my personal opinion. I also hate pain killers because they constipate my jpouch and that is VERY uncomfortable.

Keith -- Voltaren gel is a topical NSAID. In Europe you can buy it OTC but in the US you need a script for it. I started using it on Monday and it definitely helps with the pain. Hopefully it continues to play nice with my UC
