Wow. Kidney stones are debilitating just like UC was. Got a terrible attack of KS last week. Absolute worst pain I was ever in. Had to have a procedure thru my.........family jewels. Knocked out of course. Went unconscious and throwing up from pain. Never have gone thru something like that before. Water. Water and more water with lemon. Anyone out there gone thru KS episode

I havent.....but it seems the fun doesn't want to end tho.
Good to hear you're on the mend.

Just curious if you're now on diet revision intake to help prevent stones from forming?

It is a result of messed up gut pH.

According to the GI I had a consult with in the ER, he mentioned due to colitis, pH is messed up as in where it needs to be basic, its acidic and vice versa. As a result, where the oxalate salt needs to precipitate in the gut for excretion through the stools, gets reabsorbed (as it is in the soluble form) and the vicious cycle starts. The excretion and resorption saturates the system and at that moment, it precipitates where it is not supposed to, resulting in a kidney stone.

It makes perfect sense, at least in my case.

2 visits to the ER and after $20K plus in bills, no kidney stone in the last 8 years but nowadays I take great care, eat loads of fiber (soluble more than insoluble)

The less you urinate, the easier it is for stone-causing minerals to settle and bond in the kidneys and urinary tract.
Drinking plenty of water is one of the best measures you can take to avoid kidney stones.

3TimeChamp I have a jpouch too (4plus years!). This spring I had two different bouts with kidney stones. At first I thought there was something wrong with my jpouch or my liver (I also have PSC). The pain was worse than any pain I've ever had (that includes after my jpouch surgeries) and so sick to my stomach. I was laying on my bathroom floor rolling around in complete agony! My GI doctor also has a jpouch and he told me he also has had struggles with kidney stones. He said to drink all day everyday. I have a hard time keep up with fluids, but I am trying to do a lot better. I do not want to go through that again! Seems like another thing they don't tell you about with these surgeries! Good luck!

Like others has said, this is the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. I’ve been in pain before but nothing can compare to this type of pain. I got up the wee hours to go to the bathroom which was rare for me. When it hit I saw a star burst of colors, passed out & fell off the toilet.

I rarely drank water back then. I drink water now you can bet on that.

A friend of ours just has his stones blasted & he is doing great. He had one stuck in the duct. This was a little over a week ago. Good luck with your surgery.

UC & crohns patients are a little more prone to these lovelies.

Drinking water water and more water. Pain is a great motivator and Kidney stone pain is the worst pain. Loved iced tea for 30 yrs. no more. Lemon juice in as much as possible. Lemon juice helps break up stones. No issues since last Thursday. Hope it stays that way

3X...So sorry you had to go thru that.

My doctor has me squeezing the juice of 1lemon into 34 to 40 ounces of water twice a day... Does that sound like enough lemon? I do not want to go thru that stuff...

Hope you don't have to go thru that again!

Sorry, I can empathize as I had a kidney stone when I was still in highschool (back when dinosaurs ruled the earth...) and it doubled-me over in pain and took my breath away. I barely drank much at all back then, a small glass of juice in the morning and glass of milk at supper and that's about it. The stone passed on its own with some IV hydration at the hospital, plus the tons of drinks the nurses kept bringing me. Ever since, I learned my lesson and drink like a fish. A bit different in your case, as a j-pouch makes you dehydrate easier. Certainly keep the liquids to ya!

That incident was long before I had UC, so I cannot really compare the pain levels.

For me the kidney stone I passed was far more excruciating than any UC flare I've experienced. I had this at least 10 years into the onset of UC. In fact I had back pain for many months after. But at the time drinking water was not part of my regiment. I drank far too much coffee. I am cutting coffee down (4 cups a day) to 2, and trying to consume a lot more water now. I never want to go through that again.

Just got results from Dr about my KS attack. I have 2 stones. 1 large. 1 small. Both still in kidney. They inserted a stent so my pee can pass thru etherer. They will put me back in hospital. Knock me out. Remove stent. Laser both stones. Then insert another stent with string coming out thru my family jewels(hello momma-ouch). Then they pull string out after few days. And I thought colon surgery would be my last health issue. Another day another pain ,soreness etc etc

When I was in ER when first diagnosed there was a young man across the aisle from me with a kidney stone. I’ve never seen someone in such pain! I’ll never forget that.

Sorry you’re having to deal with this after all you’ve been through.
