I got a coronary calcium scan in 2016 as a screening tool because heart disease is in my family. The test results were perfect but through the CT they saw a small nodule on my lung. I’ve had two repeat CT scans, one of which was last week. The good news is my nodule is stable and likely benign but unfortunately they found that my thyroid is enlarged and I have multiple nodules with suspected microcalcifications. So of course now I have to have an ultrasound and possible biopsies to check for thyroid cancer. From what I’ve read microcalcifications are usually cancerous.

So I was wondering if any of you with UC have also had thyroid issues and if so, what kind. I’ve had thyroid bloodtests in the past which were normal but never a full thyroid panel. I’ll be getting those this week.

I’ve spent the last two days crying ALL day long. I’m in remission with my UC and just hoping all of this fear and sadness doesn’t cause me to flare again. I’ve been running consistently for the last month. I’m trying to keep it up because I know it will help ease my anxiety and depression over this.

Sorry to hear you're going through this. Hopefully the tests come back cancer-free. Keep us posted. Try not to worry too much until you know for sure (I know, that's almost impossible).

Thanks Sara. I’m trying not to worry too much because I’m in remission with my UC and don’t want to start another flare.

I'm so sorry to hear about your thyroid issues. Hopefully everything comes back okay. You will be in my thoughts.

I just recently was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroditis. I have an upcoming appointment with my GI doctor and I will ask him if they are related. My PCP told me that they are both autoimmune disorders and when you have one autoimmune disorder you're more likely to have another, other than that, he said there's no link.

I used Retin-A as a teenager, so I personally think my IBD is from that, but that's just my opinion !

Keep us updated !
